Phuket Coffee Lover’s Guide: 7 Best Local Cafes

Best Cafés in Phuket: My Personal Guide to Great Coffee on the Island

I’ve been coming back to Phuket for a couple of years now, and over time I’ve built up a short list of favourite spots for a genuinely good cup of coffee. This isn’t a complete guide, and it’s definitely not a “best of” ranking — just places I personally enjoyed and kept returning to. If you happen to be staying in any of these areas, it might save you a few bad cups and help you find somewhere worth slowing down for.

Oyatsuya Cafe — The Liveliest Morning Spot

Cozy vibes, Japanese aesthetics, and a very welcoming owner who moved here from Japan. Great cookies and buns, genuinely good coffee — a cappuccino is just 70 baht — and a big selection of drinks. The café sits right under a tree, always in the shade, with a few tables outside and some seating near the small cabin.

This was my regular morning coffee stop when I was staying nearby, especially during a stint at Eat n Sleep. It’s not calm in a “silent café” way — locals often gather here to chat with the owner, joke around, and laugh loudly about nothing in particular. That’s exactly the charm. It feels alive, human, and a bit chaotic in the best possible way. Highly recommend. Google Maps link here.

Other Cafés Worth Trying in the Same Area

A few more spots nearby are worth mentioning. กาแฟต้นซอย (Ton Soi Coffee) was a pleasant surprise — a takeaway hot cappuccino for just 20 baht, genuinely good and properly hot. Simple, local, no fuss.

Big Boss Cafe leans more corporate — minimalist design, clean lines, predictable menu. Not bad at all, just a different energy: more polished, less personal. Good if you want something safe and familiar.

Penmitr (เป็นมิตร) Coffee & Friends is a tiny place — a few chairs inside and a couple more outside — that feels almost like someone opened their living room and decided to make really good coffee for friends. Very homey, very intimate, easy to miss. Worth finding.

Local Legends rounds out the area nicely — noticeably quieter and more low-key than its neighbours. Nice coffee, good cookies, simple menu. Nothing overcomplicated.

Kamala Bakery — Community Over Perfection

This place is all about the atmosphere, the regulars, and the friendly family running it. It’s not the best coffee on the island, but it earned a permanent spot in my memory. The croissant was genuinely decent. I used to come here almost every morning while living in Kamala, and the warmth of the owners made more of a difference than any perfect espresso ever could.

396 Coffee — Solid Breakfasts, Great Sandwiches

Another dependable spot in Kamala. Quality coffee, good sandwiches, and a range of proper breakfast options. Once again, a very friendly owner. There are plenty of tables, but the place fills up fast in the morning — especially on weekends.

My go-to here was a cheese sandwich — simple, but always done right.

Just a few steps away is Sync, a much more modern and minimalist spot along the lines of Big Boss. Not my kind of vibe, but the coffee is well-made and everything runs efficiently. Worth knowing about if you’re in the area.

Choo’s Croissant — Cosy Details and Good Pastry

I visited this one on my first trip to Phuket. What I remember most is the interior — lots of thoughtful details and nice touches that make the space feel considered rather than generic. The pastry was tasty and the coffee was good. The kind of place that photographs well and also actually delivers.

MMA GUY Cafe & Ice Bath — For a Completely Different Kind of Coffee Stop

Good coffee, protein shakes, and full MMA energy. There’s a punching bag, an ice bath, and UFC on the TV at all times. Friendly owners, relaxed crowd. You can also smoke weed here, which fits the overall atmosphere quite naturally. A solid spot if you’re into training culture, or simply want something very different from a typical café experience.

Simply ‘ism Cafe’ — Coffee in the Jungle Near Kathu Waterfall

Tucked into the jungle near Kathu Waterfall, this one is best combined with a walk to the falls — lots of steps, but in my opinion it’s one of the most underrated spots on the entire island. There’s also a good sauna nearby, which makes the whole area genuinely worth a half-day trip.

The café itself has a huge menu, good food, and aesthetically pleasing smoothies. The staff are very friendly. A few other good cafés are scattered around the same area, and there’s a small ice cream shop nearby if you want something sweet after the walk.
